Gifts of Love gathered at Regina convention
Convention participants supported the Regina
Food Bank by joyfully sharing God's gifts of non-perishable
food items. Nine large barrels adding up to 600 pounds of
food were collected and given to Wayne Gilchrist of the Regina
Food Bank. In addition a cheque for $785 was turned over to
the food bank.
Servant Events well received
How do you start a preschool or a daycare
in your congregation? What's involved in making Braille materials?
Is cutting up aluminum blinds really profitable? How do you
use puppets for Gospel outreach? What's the Love Lives Here"
bus all about? Where do you begin if you want to write for
LWML-Canada?
These questions and more were answered for those who participated
in the servant events offered for the first time at this convention.
Because it is impossible to fit everything within the confines
of convention opening and closing and because many who travelled
any distance arrived on Wednesday, servant activities were
available Thursday afternoon.
Emerald S. helped put together some Braille books and pack
them for shipment. It was "neat and special to learn,"
she said, "because I have a friend who is losing her
sight!"
Several women joined the Love Lives Here bus on Friday and
Saturday evenings. The bus reaches out to prostitutes and
those living on the street by providing coffee, sandwiches,
prayer or an opportunity just to talk.
Sears Canada provides damaged blinds and cut ends which recyclers
cut into small pieces, separating the aluminum from the steel.
Since its inception over ten years ago the project has donated
$30,000 to various worthwhile causes in the City of Regina
and beyond. During the convention the Mission Service Committee
presented the Love Lives Here bus with a cheque for $459
the
money earned by the recyclers during their servant activity.
Fourteen learned various aspects of writing as three presenters
shared information about the tools and resources. Those participating
were encouraged to write and submit their workmanship to LWML-Canada
for use as resource material or in Tapestry. Time was provided
to begin writing.
